All Ireland Handball Championships Semi Finals
Galeon Riordan and Tony Breen have All Ireland Handball finals to look forward in the coming weeks as they both played some fantastic handball last weekend to advance in their respective competitions.
Galeon Riordan who plays for the Ballyhogue Club in the Enniscorthy District is back in the All Ireland minor singles final for the second year in a row as he was far too good in the semi final last week for Galway’s Conor Noohan. In a near perfect showing Riordan advanced on a 21-5, 21-8 score line. After appearing in a world semi final and a recent senior schools final the experience may be enough to give Riordan the All Ireland title he deserves.
Tony Breen shows no signs of losing interest in the game of handball and sees himself back in an All Ireland final once again in the Emerald Masters A singles. In Galway last weekend he travelled West and defeated Martin Kennelly in a fantastic semi final on a 21-17, 11-21, 21-9 score line. Breen showed his class in the third set with the scores tied at 9-9 all Breen upped the tempo and hit winner after winner to gain a 21-9 win.
Ned Buggy was unable to complete a hat trick of Wexford wins last weekend but it was an incredible effort from Buggy before he went down to home town man Morgan Darcy in an incredible semi final of the Ruby Masters Singles. Ned was 15-3 in front in the first set but was pulled back and lost 21-20. However Ned was not phased and dug deep for a 21-19 win in the second set after he trailed by six points at one stage. The third set was a very close affair and went the way of Morgan Darcy from Galway on a 21-17 score line.
