Wexford GAA have today announced detailed plans for the completion of their €5 million infrastructure projects and a fundraising venture which will help deliver on their impressive plans. The projects were first proposed in the 2021 Strategic Plan, and will be completed over the summer months. They include the further upgrade of three facilities.
Chadwicks Wexford Park has already received an upgrade to the playing surface, the installation of floodlights, and most recently, the installation of new seating in the covered stand. It will close in May for ten weeks to allow extensive upgrades to dressing rooms, media facilities, office space, and facilities for the disabled.
Meanwhile, Phase Two of The Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence in Ferns was opened last December, with the unveiling of three new pitches and new access road. The recent weather and the collaboration with Wexford Camogie and LGFA has led to a decision to install a 4G pitch in the facility. This will be developed in time for next winter.
The addition of new floodlights in St Patrick’s Park is the final piece of the Wexford infrastructure jigsaw, as the ground hosts a significant number of matches all year round.
An innovative new fundraiser has been launched to part-finance the developments. It takes the form a ‘Legacy Wall’ in Chadwicks Wexford Park, where people will be able to make a donation in exchange for their name or the name of another person being included in an impressive new display in the concourse area underneath the main stand.
Announcing the launch of the Legacy Wall, Wexford GAA chairman, Micheàl Martin, outlined that the realisation of the targets in the 2021 plan is a great source of pride for all members in the model county.
‘In launching our plan four years ago, we set out a vision to have more players playing and to have the best possible facilities for players and supporters,’ he said.
‘The work over the summer months will see that vision realised. When complete, we will have invested over €7 million between our coaching and games projects and our facilities. This would not be possible without the work of our volunteers at club and county level, the support of GAA members across our county, and the grants made available at national and provincial level.
‘The launch of today’s fundraising campaign is the final leg of the journey and I hope that all our supporters at home and abroad will join us,’ he stated.
