A meeting of Coiste Bainistí of CLG Loch Garman was held in Chadwicks Wexford Park on the evening of Thursday May 2. Matters discussed were:
Operations Manager
Wexford GAA’s new Operations Manager, Conor Day, was welcomed to his first meeting. Conor, from the St. Fintan’s club, took up the position on Monday April 22 and is wished well for the time ahead.
Inter-county Fixtures
An outline of upcoming inter-county fixtures was given. It was noted that while redevelopment work on Chadwicks Wexford Park is due to begin in the near future, it is still proposed to host the Tailteann Cup match v Antrim there on the weekend of May 18/19.
Infrastructure Update
Work will commence in Chadwicks Wexford park on May 13th with a completion date expected to be in mid-September. Dressing rooms will be prioritised so that club activity can resume in July. The completion of a 4G Pitch is still reliant on grant funding being available as the current schedule of works is costed at in excess of €4 million.
Coaching & Games
Chairperson Micheál Martin told how he, John Kenny (Coiste na nÓg Chairperson), Ray Harris (Games Development Manager), and Conor Day (Operations Manager) had a meeting that day with James Devane (Games Development Manager with Leinster Council).
It was a wide-ranging discussion on many aspects of underage coaching and the games structure within Co. Wexford.
It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday June 25, with all Club Chairpersons and Club Coiste na nÓg Chairpersons to be invited to commence a thorough review of coaching and games at grassroots.
Representatives of the Rackard League and Post-Primary Schools will also be invited.
Féile na nGael
Coiste na nÓg Chairperson John Kenny told how a meeting earlier that evening had selected the venues for the upcoming Féile na nGael, to be held on June 22:
Div. 1 Hurling – Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence, Ferns
Div. 2 Hurling – Shelmaliers & Glynn-Barntown
Div. 3 Hurling – Rapparees/Starlights & Davidstown-Courtnacuddy
Div. 4 Hurling – Ferns St. Aidans
The camogie venues will be Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence for Division 1, with lower division matches taking place at Faythe Harriers, St. Brigid’s Blackwater, St. Mary’s Rosslare, Gusserane O’Rahilly’s, and Rathnure St. Anne’s.
All clubs will be asked to assist with volunteering for the festival of hurling which will bring over 10,000 people to the county.
Fundraising
The Cairde Loch Garman Golf Classic (to be held at Bunclody Golf Club on May 9 and 10) is fully booked, with a total of 64 teams to take part. All involved were commended on their work in organising the event.
Preparations are ongoing for the Dog Night to be held at Enniscorthy Greyhound Stadium on Thursday June 13. Each club will be invited to make a contribution to ‘virtually own’ a greyhound in a Stakes competition which will culminate on the night. This will see a series of heats being held in the run-up to the event, which each club being assigned a dog. The club linked to the dog which wins the final on the night itself will receive a prize of €1,000.
Plans are also progressing for barbecue facilities and some children’s entertainment on the night.
