On Saturday afternoon last Wexford handball celebrated a monumental success in the 60×30 court as Daniel Kavanagh and Keith Armstrong were crowned MyClubShop.ie All-Ireland Minor Doubles Champions in Abbeylara, Co. Longford. Just a week after the success of Mikie and Paddy Berry in the intermediate doubles this was another fantastic success for the model county.
It was a near flawless performance for the Armstrong and Kavanagh forced their opponents onto the back foot early in the opening set and with the perfect mixture of fine serving, kill shots and passing shots. This dominance set up a fantastic 21-4 win in the opening set for the men in purple and gold.
Their Mayo opponents Niall Joyce and Patrick Murphy were rocked and were heading for another hammering in the second set as they trailed 17-7. The men from the west did make a comeback however and closed to within a couple of points but this fantastic duo Kavanagh and Armstrong didn’t flinch and closed out the deal 21-16 and claim the title.
This has been an incredible season once again for this pair of handballers as they celebrated claiming a famous minor double of doubles titles winning the 40×20 and 60×30 titles in the same year. Daniel has also collected two World championship gold medals and a runners up medal in what has been an almost perfect season for him.
