GAA Handball All Ireland Semi Finals
Wexford celebrated two all Ireland semi final success in the first weekend of this years GAA handball semi finals.
Gavin Buggy put in a very dominant display in St Joseph’s last Saturday afternoon as he packed too much punch for Dominic Lynch from Kerry. The two good friends who have previously been doubles partners in various tournaments around Ireland played a very good game but Gavin Buggy pushed the pace and won on a 21-13, 21-11 score line.
Galleon Riordan put in one of the best displays by a Wexford minor player in the 40 x 20 court , as he came back from a first game disaster of 6-21 to over turn Pat Herlihy from Cork in his own court with Riordan from Ballyhogue triumphing 21-20,21-17 in the remaining two set .
Mick Armstrong was very unlucky to lose out in the semi final of the Silver masters B singles as he lost out in the odd set of three to Jim O’Brien from Tipperary on a 21-7, 20-21, 21-12 score line.
Leinster Juvenile Handball semi finals
Wexford rise a force once again in underage handball is gathering serious pace and twelve wins from fourteen semi finals shows just how much rewards are to be got from hard training and good organisation from player and county boards.
Emma Sweeny and Emer Phelan got the ball rolling in the under 12 doubles with a 15-9,0-15, 15-1 win over Emily Shields and Siobhan McGillick from Meath.
Jessie Morrissey received a walkover in the under 13 singles while her county counter parts Emma Goff and Emma Kiely won 15-3, 15-7 against Niamh Hurley and Niamh Goldrick from Dublin.
Chloe Cash continued the winning trend in the under 15 singles as she defeated Marie Daly in a terrific game on a 14-15, 15-3, 15-10 score line. To cap a clear week for the girls of county Wexford Saoirse Colfer and Courtney Browne won the under fifteen doubles semi final accounting for Emily Leacy and Alibha Clerkin from Dublin 15-4, 9-15, 15-3.
James Creane got the ball rolling for the boys in the under 12 singles by defeating Dan fennelly from Dublin 15-12,15-9, while his doubles colleagues Todd Hynes and Colm Parnell brushed aside Hugh Prendergast and sean Flanagan from Meath 15-2, 15-4.
Patrick Boland was unlucky to lose out in the under 13 singles finding Joe stewart from Meath too good on the day as the Royal county man won 15-8, 15-2.
Anthony Butler and Adam Walsh put in a good half hours work to see off Pat Browne and Ciall dardis from Meath, 15-9, 15- 6 in the under 13 doubles.
Tomas hall recorded a very impressive 15-7, 15-6 win over Ciaran Flanagan from meath on a 15-7, 15-6 score line in the under 14 singles, while his doubles counterparts Alan Browne and Daniel Kavanagh were 15-9, 9-15, 15-11 winners over Donny Dunne and Peter Smyth from Meath.
Oisin Foley carried over his colleges and county form to see off Liam Hanna from Louth 15-0, 15-0 in the under 15 singles, while the under 16 doubles pairing of Liam Shannon and Arron wright Power were beaten 15-4, 15-8 by Robert Fox and Dylan Sheridan from Meath.
Nicky Lawlor capped a mighty week for Wexford handball with a 21-0, 21-4 win over Sean Kavanagh fromDublin in the under 17 singles.
