Galeon Riordan from Ballyhogue lost out at the All Ireland stage for the second season in a row in the 40 x 20 minor handball singles. After a hugely impressive Leinster campaign Riordan hoped to succeed where he just came up short last season.
With Riordan also reaching the senior colleges handball final in the 40 x 20 recently he was showing continued form from last season , where he also was a World semi finalist in the 19 and under singles grade.
The final took place last Saturday evening in Abbeylara County Longford and was the curtain raiser to the senior singles final that was won for an incredible tenth time by Paul Brady from Cavan. Galeon Riordan’s opponent was Colin Grehan from Clare who also was Riordan’s opponent in the recent colleges final and has also a World under 17 title in his pocket from last October’s World Championships in Dublin.
On this occasion again it was to be the day for the man from the Banner County as he won through 21-11, 21-13 against a very disappointed Riordan. One thing for sure is that Riordan is and will be a huge handball star of county Wexford in the future.
