Wexford to host intervarsity teams event
By Conor O’Gorman
With the curtain well and truly down on the big alley season, the college’s scene has it’s sights firmly set on the 40×20 code. To start things off, the teams event will take place in Wexford next weekend (22nd of November) with the singles competition being held on the last weekend in January, in Kingscourt Co. Cavan.
This year, the team’s competition makes a return to the St. Josephs club in Co Wexford, following two very successful years in the same location. With it’s three courts, this fine establishment will play host to the 40×20 intervarsity teams competition and also the women’s doubles event. Handballers from all over the country will come together to represent their colleges, competing across a variety of playing levels which range from complete beginner to established senior players.
Once again, this competition will provide a good opportunity for newcomers to the game to get a feel for the sport, as well as a chance to meet people and make friends from all across the country. It will also provide the more experienced players a chance to hone their skills, and sink their teeth into the 40×20 season.
All in all, this weekend promises to be a great showcase for GAA handball. All are welcome to come and watch any of the games over the entire weekend, free of charge! So if you find yourself passing by the St. Josephs complex, or are an avid fan of great quality handball, make sure to call in. Games will commence at 6pm on Friday, with the finals being played on Saturday evening.
Finally, a reminder that entries have to be in by 5pm on Monday (18th)! If you haven’t entered yet, you can do so by contacting your college handball club, or contact the ICHA directly via email at [email protected]
