There was a great attendance of more than 60 people at a Matchday Stewards training course held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Wednesday January 11, with most of the clubs in the county represented. One of the organisers remarked afterwards that it was particularly pleasing to see so many new faces there, including a number of women.
The training was delivered by Kieran McGann (Event Controller with Munster GAA) and Patrick O’Brien (the GAA’s national Health & Safety Officer). They were assisted by Fintan Fanning, who is Event Controller with Wicklow GAA, and a former Assistant Commissioner in An Garda Siochána.
Stewards play a vitally important role on match days, and new volunteers are always welcome. Qualified stewards are entitled to free entry to all club matches in Wexford, and can see all home inter-county matches. Anybody interested may phone Bobby Goff at (087) 2542041 at any time for information on how to volunteer.
