Wexford Farmers Co-op 40 x20 Handball Finals
Buggy slams Senior title in small court yet again.
The Wexford Farmers Co-op 40 x 20 handball finals began over the past week and saw Gavin Buggy crowned the senior kingpin in the county once again.
Gavin showed his class once again and his appetite for county senior titles is stronger than ever as he cast aside the challenge of Ballyhogue’s Peter Hughes in a dominant 21-4, 21-7 score line.
Prior to the senior final Galeon Riordan one of the hot prospects for the future in Wexford handball did deliver a title for Ballyhogue as he brushed aside the challenge of Michael Busher from Bridgetown in tremendous fashion as the Ballyhogue man won 21-1, 21-11 to secure the intermediate singles title.
Paddy Haughton from St Mary’s continued his comeback into the handball frame as he captured the junior singles for his club by defeating Damien Kelly from Coolgraney.
Coolgraney celebrated on the night however as the junior c singles title was brought home by Peter McGrath as he defeated JR Finn from Ballymitty in a very entertaining final.
Horeswood’s combination of Tom Cummins and Richard Ryan celebrated in style as they won the Junior D doubles title with an impressive display to beat Patrick O’Connor and Peter Sutton from Oulart.
Ned Connors collected a second title of the week for the Coolgraney club as he was too strong for Martin Crowley from St Joseph’s in the Over 35 singles final.
Shane Rossiter and Phil Coleman were the strongest pair in the Masters B doubles final as the Ballymitty duo got over the winning line in a tough game against Barntown duo Ricky Barron and Mick Donovan.
Holly Hynes and Marguerite Gore were the pride of St Mary’s as they took the Ladies Junior Doubles title as they defeated Tanya O’Toole and Una Byrne in the final last week also.
County Juvenile Handball Finals.
Last weekend St Joseph’s handball club in Wexford town there was a hive of activity as the cream of Juvenile handball in Wexford played there parts in an amazing finals afternoon.
Aoife O’Connor (St Martin’s) was the winner of the girls under 10 singles as she defeated Emma Phelan from St Joseph’s on a 15-11, 15-11 score line in what was an entertaining game.
There was two finals in the under 11 girls grade. In the ‘A’ final Alibeth Curran from St Joseph’s took the title beating Niamh Millar from Ballymitty on a 15-11, 15-3 score line while Hannah Cullen (St Joseph’s) won a three set thriller 15-11, 14-15, 11-8 over Maxine Byrne from Ballymitty.
Ciara O’Connor (St Martin’s) won another terrific under under 12 A singles final getting the better of Cliodhna O’Connell from Coolgraney 15-11, 15-14. IN the girls under 12 B final Anna Kearney from St Joseph’s took the honours defeating Erin Byrne from the same club 15-12, 15-7.
There was an all St Joseph’s clash in the under 13 A singles final and it was Cora Doyle who came out on top winning 15-9, 15-5. In the under 13 B singles final the best girl in a close contest was Lauren Flanagan from Coolgraney as she beat Lucia Merrigan from Coolgraney 15-12, 15-8.
Holly Hynes from St Mary’s took the honours in the girls under 14 singles as she beat Tara Doyle from St Martin’s in the final , while the winner in girls under 15 singles was Roisin Walsh from St Joseph’s as she was too good on the day for Sarah O’Connor from St Martin’s on a 15-10, 15-5 score line.
The excitement produced on the court in the girls finals was matched equally in the boys finals. IN the under 10 grade Mark Doyle St Joseph’s took the ‘A’ title defeating Robbie Hillis from St Joseph’s on a 15-10, 15-7 score line. IN the B final in the same age group Ryan Boland from Coolgraney defeated Pierce Arthurs from St Joseph’s 15-7, 15-11
There was three finals in the under 11 age group In the ‘A’ final Richard Lawlor won the day beating his club mate Ryan Diarmuid Moore on a 15-0, 15-4 score line. Dean O’Neill took the B singles in this grade , as the Ballymitty man got over the line defeating Nathan Byrne from St Joseph’s on a 15-14, 15-11 score line. The C final at under 11 went to Michael Gaynor from Ballymitty as he beat Eoin O’Connor also from Ballymitty.
Glen Murphy (St Mary’s) was the top man in the under 12 A singles as he beat Cian Kehoe from St Joseph’s 15-4, 15-4, while in the B singles at under 12 grade Ciaran Cullen from St Joseph’s won the day over his club mate Darragh Hayes.
Todd Hynes followed the example of his sister Holly to also add a title to the bag for St Mary’s as he won the under 13 A singles final beating Colm Parnell Ballyhogue 15-3, 15-8.
Templeudigan picked up their sole title of the weekend as Ciaran Connolly collected the under 13 B singles final by defeating James Murphy from Ballymitty 15-3, 15-12.
Anthony Butler (Ballyhogue) was a fantastic winner of a super under 14 singles final as he beat Patrick Boland from Templeudigan 15-10, 15-11.
Tomas Hall from Castlebridge collected another title in the under 15 singles as he got the better of Liam Rossiter from Ballyhogue in the final on a 15-13, 2-15, 15-11 score. While the under 16 final saw Keith Armstrong come up trumps in an incredible final to beat Daniel Kavanagh from St Joseph’s on a 10-21, 21-16, 11-10 score line.
