Tops mark for Armstrong in Colleges.
Keith Armstrong is the toast of FCJ Bunclody after he collected the All Ireland 6- x 30 Intermediate singles second level colleges’ title over the weekend with two huge results that rocked the handball world.
In the semi finals of a dream weekend for Armstrong he got the ball rolling in impressive fashion by casting aside ST Patrick’s Armagh student Brian McEnenely 15-14, 15-9 to set up an All Ireland final against Fergal Coughlin from Rice College. One would have expected this to have been a bridge too far for Armstrong but this young man played out of his skin and won an epic final on a 15-14, 15-13 score line for a fantastic All Ireland title that he will savour for years to come.
Galeon Riordan was unfortunately beaten in the senior singles final by Daniel Relihan from Cork on a 12-15, 15-8, 15-7 score line in another heart breaking story for the Ballyhogue club player who was representing St peter’s College, Riordan had qualified for the final after beating Johnny Woods from St Kieran’s Ballygawley in the semi final on a 15-7, 15-13 score line.
Wexford 40×20 Winter handball league.
Gavin Buggy regained his form in the Wexford winter handball league last week with two wins from two games in the Premier Division of the competition. In the opening game of the week Gavin representing St Joseph’s beat Peter Hughes from Ballyhogue comfortably two games to nil and the second contest saw him beat Coolboy’s Jerome Willoughby by two games to one.
Daniel Fenlon continues to top the pile in division one after another flawless victory as he beat Chris Doyle from Coolboy 2-0 however there was a Coolboy win over Garryhill as Gary Donohue beat John Rossiter 2-0.
Pat Quaile from Coolboy won his division two clash with Tony Breen from Templeudigan on a 2-0 score line also and in the same division Ollie Ryan from Garryhill was a 2-1 winner over Peter McGrath from Coolgraney.
Tomas Lennon had a valuable two nil win in division three as he saw off the challenge from Mick Armstrong from Davidstown, while Lennon’s Monavea club mate Andrew Dowling was a 2-0 winner in division 4 where he beat John Roche from Castlebridge and in the same division Colin Browne Coolgraney beat Jason Kehoe from St Joseph’s.
Ricky Barron (Barntown) is on a roll in division 5 another week another win for the table topper as Sean Ryan Garryhill was his victim this time on a 2-0 score line while in the same group Paul Dowling Mothel defeated Eammon Rice Wicklow 2-1.
John Murphy from Kilmyshall was a 2-0 winner over Stephen Murphy (Castlebridge) in division nine and in the same division Harry Leacy (St Joseph’s) beat Jimmy Neary (Talbot’s Inch) 2-0 and Kevin Rossiter (Garryhill) did likewise to Stephen Murphy from Castlebridge.
Gavin Goggins (St Mary’s) won 2-0 against Liam Rossiter (Ballyhogue) in division 11, while also in that group Eammon Bowe (Davidstown) overcame Brendan Murphy from Castlebridge on a similar score line.
In Division 14 Kilmyshall players Timmy Farrell and Thomas Murphy both recorded wins while in division 16 there was two points on the board for David Stanners after his win over Trevor Nolan from St Joseph’s.
In the women’s division there was a fantastic win for Marguerite Gore as the St Mary’s girl beat Ellen O’Connor from Leixlip by two game to nil , while in ladies division two Roisin Walsh won a St Joseph’s battle beating Cora Doyle by two games to one.
