Connors and Buggy bag crucial wins.
Miley Connors from Barntown sprung a huge win in the final round of group games in the senior singles as he defeated unbeaten Peter Hughes from Ballyhogue on a 21-20, 12-21, 21-12 score line. Gavin Buggy was very impressive in beating Darren O’Toole from Coolgraney on a 21-11, 21-4 score line.
There was one quarter final played in the intermediate singles and it was a very impressive win for Michael Busher from Bridgetown as he defeated Tony Breen from Templeudigan in a closely fought 20-21, 21-9, 21-8 result.
Three games were down for decision in the Junior C singles. JR Finn from Ballymitty got past James Nolan from Kilmyshall 21-10, 21-2, Paddy Cheevers (Horeswood) was a 21-15, 21-17 winner over Templeudigan’s Dermot Flynn while Kevin Doyle (Davidstown) came from a set down to beat Eugene English (Ballyhogue) 19-21, 21-15, 21-14.
In the junior D singles Tom Cummins from Horeswood advanced to the next round seeing off Tom Murphy from Kilmyshall 21-14, 21-10, while in the same grade Paddy Curran (St Martin’s) was also a winner when he got the better of Richie Ryan from Horeswood on a 21-10, 21-13 score line.
Three games in the junior D doubles event provided entertaining matches, Oulart duo Peter O’Connor and Peter Sutton landed the spoils over Coolgraney pairing Jody Shaughnessy and Colm Browne 21-15, 21-14. Two Kilmyshall pairings have progressed to the semi finals Timmy Farrell and Tom Murphy beat Ciaran Reville and Sean Kent from Horeswood 21-12, 21-17, while Tom Byrne and James Nolan also progressed on a 21-11, 21-12 score line over Seamie O’Neill and Miley Byrne from Ballymitty.
Donal Doyle and Nicky Curran (St Martin’s) won a very exciting Golden Masters A doubles semi final when they got the better of Ballyhogue duo Sonny Sheils and Billy Rossiter by 21-18, 21-17.
The ladies championships are also progressing well with Holly Hynes (St Mary’s) blitzing Michelle Boland from Templeudigan 21-5, 21-2 in the Junior Singles, while Lorraine Maddock (St Martin’s) eventually wore down Olivia Sweeny 21-16, 11-21, and 21-19.
The men’s beginners’ singles continues also and Martin Crowley from St Joseph’s was a 16-21, 21-14, 21-15 winner over Colm Browne from Coolgraney.
