Leinster handball Championships
Riordan showing winning feeling
Galeon Riordan from Ballyhogue is continuing the fine form of last season as he advanced to the final of the Leinster minor handball championships after a dominant display to see off JJ English from Kilkenny on a 21-16, 21-2 score line.
Barry McWilliams was equally as impressive in the Junior B singles quarter finals last week as he powered past Ger Anthony from Kilkenny on a 21-8, 21-10 score line and on his current form he is a big contender to win the singles grade a final he was beaten in before some six years ago.
Barry McWilliams saw his luck run out in the Junior B doubles however as he and brother Fergal were beaten in the quarter finals by another strong Wexford pairing as Michael Busher and Paddy Haughton delivered the winning shots more often in a 21-10, 21-18 win.
In the same grade Jason and Cory Murphy bowed out on a 21-15, 21-11 score line to Andrew Dowling and Peter Whelan from Laois.
Shane Rossiter won another all Wexford clash in the Masters B singles as he saw off Damien Kelly in a close game winning 21-14, 21-19. Mick Armstrong started and finished well in advancing to the next round of the Silver Masters B singles , winning 21-4, 14-21, 21-9 against David Burke from Kilkenny.
Pechelli English saw his singles campaign come to an end in the Golden Master’s A grade as he fell 21-14, 21-12 against Padraig McGuire from Kildare, while another Kildare person ended Wexford hopes in the ladies junior singles as Marguerite Gore was just pipped by Una Wrynn 21-19, 21-17.
