Wexford 40 x 20 handball championships
The last remaining group games and quarter finals took place last week in the Wexford Farmers Co-op 40 x 20 handball championships and there was some interesting results on the report cards this week.
In the last of the senior singles clashes Jason Murphy from Castlebridge wore down Darren O’Toole from Coolgraney to win 21-11, 20-21, 21-18 in a fantastic last group game. Marguerite Gore (St Mary’s) fired a final warning shot to all other players in the ladies junior singles group stages as she defeated Tanya O’Toole from Coolgraney 21-4, 21-4.
The four quarter finals of the Masters B singles were down for decision last week. Shane Rossiter (Ballymitty) won a bruising game 6-21, 21-18, 21-19 against Tom Connors from Barntown, Damien Kelly (Coolgraney) was a comfortable 21-1, 21-8 winner over Eugene English (Ballyhogue) , while John Roche (Castlebridge) had to battle all the way in beating Dom Stafford from Davidstown on a 21-18, 21-14 score line, while injured Phil Coleman had to concede a walk over to Ricky Barron in the last quarter final.
There was a double of wins for Templeudigan in the Junior D singles quarter finals as Richard Flynn beat PJ Martin from Barntown 21-7, 21-10, while Robbie Codd battled hard to see off Gavin Goggins (St Mary’s) 21-20, 21-17.
In the last quarter final of the week Tom Cummins and Richard Ryan marched on in the Junior D doubles by defeating David Butler and Noel Butler 21-4, 21-5.
