Cavan and Roscommon both sealed their promotion to Division II on Sunday, making it five wins out of five for each of them in the third tier. They will play in Division II in 2015, and will contest the Division III final at Croke Park on Saturday, April 26.
A Martin Dunne penalty at the start of the second half was the key score for Cavan as they defeated local rivals Longford by two points at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. They will be joined next year in the second tier by Roscommon, who made it five wins from five after a huge win over Offaly in Dr Hyde Park. Cathal Cregg was among the goalscorers for John Evans’ side.
There were also wins in Division III on Sunday for Fermanagh, who easily defeated Limerick in Newcastle West, and Wexford, who recorded a much-needed win over Sligo in Wexford Park. Today’s results confirmed the promotion situation for the tier, but leave the relegation picture very much to be decided – Fermanagh, Longford, Wexford, Sligo and Limerick are all, remarkably, tied on four points with two rounds of games to go.
Next weekends game away to Fermanagh is now a real must win for Aidan O’Briens team and then we have the very familiar opponents Longford visiting in the last round.
