South Leinster Juvenile Hurling C1 Final
In Pearse Park, Arklow
Wednesday May 1, 2013
Enniscorthy Vocational College……………4-25
Colaiste Chill Mhantain……………………….0-05
Having suffered defeat at the semi-final stage of the Junior Hurling competition by Colaiste Cill Mhantain back in November, Enniscorthy VC were hoping for a more favourable result this time round in the South Leinster Juvenile C1 final in Pearse Park, Arklow last Wednesday.
There was never a doubt as to what the result would be after an inspirational start from Enniscorthy VC corner forward’s Mick McGrath which yielded two early goals set the tone for what would be a memorable victory for the Wexford students.
Some fine points from Aaron Dobbs, Jeff Tobin and the ever reliable midfielder Peter Cullen brought the score to 2-17 to nil at the halfway stage. Colaiste Chill Mhantain failed to register a score in the first half but were pushing hard to break through the Enniscorthy rearguard who were in no mood to let anything through with Aaron Dobbs at centre back in sparking form ably supported by his Rapparee’s clubmate Adam Kirwan and Sean O’Sullivan from the Shamrocks.
In the second half Enniscorthy VC continued to dominate adding 2-08 to their tally. As their confidence grew, some excellent teamwork was evident particularly from the Murphy twins, John and Anthony who worked hard to provide scoring opportunities for their team mates. At the final whistle, a jubilant team captain Ivan Meegan accepted the trophy on behalf of the team, some of whom tasted success in the final of the Juvenile ‘D’ Grade last year.
The Enniscorthy boys took to the field in a new set of jerseys which was kindly sponsored by the hard working Parents Association at Enniscorthy Vocational College.
