A Wexford Combined Colleges hurling team was established for the first time this year and has got off to a great start. The team is made up of players from second level schools around the county, outside of St Peters and Good Counsel (who are both already playing Leinster Colleges A hurling).
Reports from players, their parents and teachers is that they are really enjoying the experience and are rapidly developing their skills under the watchful eye of team manager Paul Carley.
Over the weekend they played against Kilkenny opposition when they took on the Glenmore U21s, a side backboned by Kilkenny county stars including Ger Alwyard. The Kilkenny men won out in the end but the Wexford management were very pleased with their effort and believe it’s only by playing against better opposition that our lads will learn and improve as hurlers.
The result is that we now have 3 team in Wexford playing and training for colleges A hurling, more hurlers playing at a higher level, something that will surely benefit our prospects in minor in 2014. Our thanks to all the schools, clubs, parents and players for their support.
