Pairc Charman
Tuesday May 21, 2013
Wexford CBS………….1-19 Good Counsel ‘B’………….3-12 (After Extra-Time)
The junior footballers of Wexford CBS captured the Keevans Cup Junior Football B Title after an epic battle against Good Counsel B in Pairc Charman recently.
The Bokerboys always seemed to be ahead of their opponents but couldn’t shake off the New Ross students and despite going into a 0-7 to 0-3 lead after 25 minutes, CBS conceded three late points to leave the score at 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.
Ciaran Kirwan led the charge in the scoring stakes with solid performances also from Nicky Lawlor, John Hamilton and Joe Redmond.
A great save from Shane McGrath kept Counsel at bay but he couldn’t keep a clean sheet much longer and he was beaten twice in the second half. Yet CBS replied with points from Ciaran Kirwan (3), David Tormey, Jesse Farrell and Sean Donohue (one each) but the goals looked to have secured Good Counsel the win but Conor Coleman’s late goal following a pass from Aaron McGuire brought CBS back to life. Full-time score 1-13 to 2-10.
Extra time beckoned and CBS took the lead and at half-time enjoyed the advantage by 1-17 to 2-12. Counsel’s third goal gave CBS more worries but up popped Conor Coleman to level the score and then Aaron McGuire scored the winner to great celebrations from the Bokerboys.
