Wexford VTOS is running a GAA Coaching and Administration Course in the coming year. This course is run on a full time basis and is open to anyone who is over 21 and unemployed for at least 6 months. The course was set up with GAA Clubs in mind and will provide training not just on the coaching front but will also equip the participants to deal with the administration side of things. Participants will receive a FETAC Level 5 Administration Award as well as GAA level 1 Coaching Award in both hurling and football at child, youth and adult grades. There is also a progression option where they will receive a FETAC Sports and Fitness Award and a GAA Level 2 Coaching Award.
This is the third roll out of this programme and the previous two have been very successful. There has been excellent feedback from the participants and from their clubs as well as an endorsement from Wexford Co Board, Leinster Council and Croke Park. So far 22 clubs in Co Wexford have benefitted from this course. Participants have taken up coaching roles with teams from underage to Senior at Club level, they have worked with development squads and school teams at primary and secondary level, have worked on summer camps in Wexford and Dublin and many have become actively involved in an administrative capacity taking on officer roles at Club and Co Level.
Participants will be paid a training allowance throughout the course. There is no background required in computers or admin and this should not prove a deterrent to anyone who may be interested as every help and support will be given. Feedback from previous graduates has been that as well as the qualifications, the course gave them a new confidence and enthusiasm. They enjoyed the camaraderie and the sense of belonging as well as having a purpose and something to get up in the morning for. The idea is that they will go back to their clubs who will benefit from their skills.
