The U15 Wexford footballs travelled to Rhode in Co.Offaly last Saturday to complete in the A section Leinster blitz. It was a good group with Wexford, Tyrone, Leitrim and Westmeath. 3 teams Wexford, Westmeath, and Tyrone all finished level on level points after the group stages with 2 wins from 3 each. Our boys lost their first game to Tyrone on a score line of 0-11 to 0-06 and then beat Leitrim by 2 pts 1-08 to 1-06 before setting up the final group game with Westmeath who had beaten both Tyrone and Leitrim earlier. This was a tight tough physical game but the Wexford squad came out on top with an excellent 3 point win on a score line of 1-07 to 3-04. We then had to wait to see who had qualified as it had to go on score difference as the 3 teams finished on level points. Unfortunately Westmeath had a marginal better score difference overall and they qualified to meet Kildare in the Leinster semi final.
Overall these Wexford lads have vastly improved and are capable of completing with any top football county. Their pride determination and ability were clear for all to see in Offaly and received many compliments from other county coaches and supporters.
The Wexford U15 Football Manager Noel Kinsella( Monageer/Boolavogue) would like to thank all parents for bringing the players to and from training all year and all supporters who traveled to the matches over the year. Also a thanks to the rest of the management team for their immense effort over the year. Padraig Leacy selector (Cushinstown), Paddy Rossiter Statistics (Ferns), Shane Dunphy Trainer (Adamstown) and Frank Devereux S&C (Ferns).
The U15s will now play a few challenge matches before heading into a Strenght and Conditioning Programmes in October.
