Seventeen clubs are represented in the Wexford senior football training panel of 36 that’s currently preparing for the O’Byrne Cup and Allianz League campaigns.
New manager John Hegarty and his backroom team have selected the best of footballing talent from right across the county, from Kilanerin down to Fethard, and from Rosslare back up to Bunclody.
The Gorey District neighbours of Kilanerin and Castletown are best represented on the panel, with five players each. There are three from Shelmaliers and St. James’, while seven clubs have two representatives on the panel, and six others have one representative each.
The footballers begin their season with three O’Byrne Cup matches in quick succession (home v Kildare on January 4, away v Westmeath on January 7, and home v Louth on January 11), with a semi-final and final to then follow should they make it that far. The League campaign will begin with a home match v London under the new floodlights in Wexford Park on Saturday January 28.
