Well done to Starlights Intermediate Footballers and their mentors who battled well to make it to the Intermediate final in 3 weeks time against St. James. It was all one way traffic in the first half in Wexford Park as the Stars notched up an impressive 1.10 to Glynns 4 points and indeed it looked as though it was going to be more of the same when the stylish James Carty knocked over the first score on resumption but the tables turned considerably when the Starlights went a man down as Jason Russell got his second yellow and for a time we lost our momentum but the introduction of substitutes Kevin Foley and Declan Ruth seemed to steady things as Kevin won possession and a free just after coming on and Declan brought off some excellent catches around the mid field area and the Stars rallied again and finished strong with outstanding individual performances from Ricky Fox, James Carty with Tom Wall and Mark Gahan solid in defence. Well done to everyone involved it was a long, hard road to the final made even more difficult by the absence of Tomas Mahon – but ye have made it and you are now only one hour away from being senior footballers again. Go for it! We are all behind you.
Unfortunately, our Junior footballers missed out on their slot in the final by the narrowest of margins. Leading by 2 points 2 minutes into injury time victory was snatched from their grasp with a goal from Clongeen with the last kick of the game. A truly awful way to exit a championship and hard luck to all concerned who had put in a major effort throughout the season – pity you didn`t make it lads thank you for your efforts on our behalf and special thanks to your mentors Jim Nolan, Jack Redmond, Purt Doyle, Nicky Kehoe and Maurice Donohoe.
Score 1.7 to 9pts. Scorers: Mark Redmond 1 goal, Alan Tobin 2 pts, Liam Ryan, Timmy Dwyer, and Christopher 1pt each.
