The Wexford Supporters Club (Dublin Branch) held their highly successful Annual Golf Classic last week at Castlewarden Golf Club just outside Dublin, rasing much needed funds for Wexford GAA.
Report by club Chairman, Justin Prendergast
Described in the ‘Kildare Nationalist’ that morning as ‘hot & humid with temperatures up to 28 degrees’, the weather forecast was not wrong for the 21st Annual Wexford Supporters Club Golf Classic in Castlewarden, Co Kildare.
This years Classic was on Thursday 11th July and after being welcomed by Castlewarden Club President, Jim Corbett ( of Wellingtonbridge ) 19 teams battled through the 18 holes where bottles of sun cream instead of beer were exchanged. Naturally the talk on the day was of the great U-21 hurling victory over Kilkenny the previous evening in WexfordPark.
9 hours later and after all teams enjoyed a four course meal, our event organiser Moses Morrissey presented the 1st prize to team Dunning who scored a strong 94 points. The winning team members were John Dunning, Dave Kelly, Jim Dwyer and Graham Dunning.
The committee would like to thank our score keeper on the day, John O’Neill. John is usually accompanied by our Treasurer and his namesake, John O’Neill. John could not be with us this year as he was recovering from an operation. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
Finally, the committee of the Dublin Branch would like to thank all those who took part in this years Classic and look forward to welcoming you all again to Castlewarden next year.
