Juvenile County Board Established
The inauguration meeting of the newly established County Wexford Juvenile Handball board will take place this coming Wednesday, the 16th of April 2014 at 7.30pm at St. Martins, Piercetown. All club juvenile officers are requested to attend so as to assist with the upcoming juvenile 60 x 30 championship. The newly appointed committee are as follows – Ricky Barron of Barntown was appointed as Chariman along with Barry McWilliams of Horeswood appointed as Secretary and Virginia Hanrahan of Castlebridge appointed as Children’s Officer. Each Handball club are requested to ensure their respective children’s officer attend this meeting and lend their support to the juvenile County board in the forthcoming year.
New format and grading applied to 60 x 30 County championship…..
A new structure has been put into place for this years County 60 x 30 championship. The main changes are the regarding of players so that each player is graded in the County championship as they are graded for the provincial championship. As a result this left a very high number of entries in the Junior championship with the competition and standard at a very high level.
This year’s County 60 x 30 championships will be run on a league basis which will guarantee players more matches in each grade. At special County Board meeting was held at the start of last week in Piercetown where the proposals for the new championship were passed by the delegates and all players were individually graded on the night. The changes to this year’s championship are as a direct result of Wexford County Handball board setting an agenda to raise entry numbers and the profile of our 60 x 30 game. The new championship format along with club team event competitions will most certainly greatly improve the big alley game within the County which in turn will hopefully reap rewards within the provincial and National championships.
