ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS. THE GIRLS OF WEXFORD.
Wexford ladies footballers have won their first ever adult Al Ireland title with a 1-12 to 1-10 win over New York in the TG4 JFC final in Croke Park.
Wexford had pulled ahead with a Marie Byrne goal and looked to be on couse for victory despite putting a penalty wide.
But New York had other ideas and waves of attack were held at bay by brilliant saves by Mary Rose Kelly in the Wexford goal accompanied by some excellent defending.
However with 2 minutes to go another attack was held up and everyone stopped for a ref whistle, None came, a New Yprk played picked up the ball, laid it off and blasted to the net.A point from the kick-out and only 1 point separated the teams.
But the Girls of Wexford were not to be outdone and attacked and pointed to put 2 between the sides when the full time hooter sounded.
Captain Clara Donnelly collected the trophy and Mary Rose Kelly was named player of the game.
