The talking points were plentiful after last weekend’s action on the local GAA scene.
There was a three-in-four chance of a new pairing for the Dominic Smith Electrical Senior football championship decider prior to Sunday’s semi-finals. HWH-Bunclody versus Gusserane was the only potential repeat of history, as the Enniscorthy District men won their two titles at the expense of the O’Rahilly’s in 1982 and 1985 respectively.
However, Shelmaliers spoiled the possibility of a third final clash between the clubs when they ended the super run of HWH-Bunclody on a 3-8 to 0-8 scoreline.
And now they will meet Gusserane at 2.15 p.m. next Sunday, after the New Ross District side continued their very impressive form in the knockout stages with a 1-8 to 1-5 dismissal of St. Martin’s.
Our regular columnist Billy Dodd is tipping the Shels to claim a second title, but he was proven wrong about Gusserane last Sunday so let’s see if they can do it again!
The Amber Springs Hotel & Ashdown Park Hotel Intermediate football championship will conclude with a pairing that is guaranteed to provide a new team for the Senior ranks, with Crossabeg-Ballymurn and St. Mary’s (Maudlintown) both seeking a first-ever title in this grade.

St. Mary’s were one of three sides to make it through to finals last Saturday with historic penalty shoot-out wins, along with Cloughbawn in the Joyces Expert Intermediate ‘A’ football championship, and Monageer-Boolavogue in the Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior football championship.
