The Coaching & Games Development Committee will launch an exciting new initiative on Thursday August 22nd in the Ferrycarrig Hotel at 8pm. This will have the potential to take hurling in Wexford to a new level, bringing together schools, clubs and Wexford GAA, enabling cooperation, coordination and providing resources that will have the power to change the landscape in a radical way. A key aspect is the plan is the idea that hurling can and should be a ‘365 day’ game, played all year round, in a fun, inclusive environment to hone the skills and love of the game. It builds on the model pioneered in Ballymurn which linked the local schools with the Crossabeg-Ballymurn club. You can read more about the ‘Ballymurn Model’ here
This imaginative project has been generously sponsored by the Hickey family without whose far sighted support it would not be possible.
This project is testament to the hard work of the Hurling Development Committee under Liam Griffin and supported by among others, Coiste na nÓg Chair Bobby Goff, County Board Chair Diarmuid Deveraux, this years minor hurling manager Wille Cleary and TAW Chairman Murt Flynn.
It’s hoped that clubs, schools and all those with a love of our games will embrace this initiative, which could be a turning point for Wexford GAA, reigniting hurling in the county.
Invites will be issued to clubs and schools in the coming days.
