Tommy Hynes rolled back the years with an awesome performance in a wonder Wexford Farmers Co-op 60 x 30 Handball Senior Open Singles final in St Mary’s Wexford last night, as he over came former club mate Gavin Buggy 21-6, 21-15.
The opening set saw Hynes give an exhibition of killing shots with his left hand on every oppurtunity to leave Buggy scrambling for points as Tommy claimed the first set.
Gavin Buggy (St Joseph’s) trailed 9-4 early in the second set before forging into a 13-12 lead with some magnificent handball being played by both players. However as points became hard to come by a couple of missed chances by Buggy allowed Tommy Hynes to grind down the win.
This was a memorable night for Tommy Hynes (St Mary’s) who has overcome two shoulder operations in recent times and this win will set him up well for the Leinster Masters Singles final v Michael Duxie Walsh in the coming weeks.
