Best of luck to all Wexford ex-pats living and working in the Far East this weekend who will be involved in the Annual Asian Gaelic games Tournament which is taking place this weekend in Bangkok and Thailand
This coming weekend sees Thailand GAA host the 2017 Fexco Asian Gaelic Games in Bangkok. There are teams from all over Asia attending with over 700 people playing. We have Men’s and Ladies’ Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie on show at 3 venues (Bangkok Patana with 3 pitches and Berkeley International School and St Andrews 107 with one pitch each).
Fexco, Ireland’s largest privately-owned financial technology company who confirmed their sponsorship for a venture that began in 1996 and has been staged in Manila, Singapore, Phuket, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Penang, Bangkok, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur.
This year 65 teams representing 20 clubs from 18 countries, with about 800 participants in total, will play 200 matches. Games are nine-a-side with matches lasting 14 minutes. There are 10 trophies to be won along with individual All-Stars, Most Valuable Player (MVP) and club awards. The top teams compete for the Derek Brady Cup, the Ladies Cup, Hurling Cup and Camogie Cup.
