Nomination of Sheamus Howlin for Election as President of CLG.
It is with pride and great collective satisfaction that Wexford County Board formally nominates Sheamus Howlin of St. Martins GAA Club a candidate in the forthcoming election for President CLG.
As a father, grandfather and successful business man he is ideally placed to face the challenges posed to the Clubs, Counties and GAA families which make up our wonderful national movement.
Sheamus passes every test of experience from the time, as an 18 year old, he first joined St. Martins to today where as a loyal supporter he continues to be active as Vice Chairman and Vice President of the Club.
In the intervening years his CV reflects ongoing commitment, and passion, for the GAA which saw him elected to Wexford County Board in 1989 where he progressed to CountyChairman having served in numerous roles including Sponsorship, Wexford Park Development and Vice Chairman during a 14 year period.
It was his elevation to Leinster Council where he found a true home for his organizational, and leadership, talents and he remained on the Council for 21 years. During this remarkable period he served as Chairman of the Referees Committee and various other Provincial Committees however his leadership potential was finally recognised when he was elected to serve as PRO, Vice Chairman and eventually Chairman of the Provincial Council.
His passion for the Association, and loyalty to its objectives, saw him appointed to the National Youth Committee by President Joe Mc Donagh and he also served on the National Games Administration Committee and National Referees Committee.
During the Presidency of Nickey Brennan he was appointed Chairman of the Oversees Development Committee and struck up a lasting relationship with the GAA family abroad.
He served with distinction as Vice President of the GAA for a 3 year period.
Currently Sheamus is a Trustee of the GAA, a member of the Coiste Bainisti and a member of the National Finance Committee.
He is a good listener, a strong believer in team work and ongoing communication with all units of the Association, and has brokered many a compromise when it was most desperately needed.
This lifetime experience coupled to his deep rooted loyalty to his Club and family make him the ideal candidate for President in an era when strong business credentials coupled to traditional family, and GAA, values are a prerequisite to progress.
He has our trust and support.
Diarmuid Devereux,
Chairman Wexford County Board.
