Yesterday was a busy one for our Hurling Talent Academy squads as they took the field in Wexford, Waterford and Tipperary. The u14s were in action in the Tony Forristal and the Sonny Walsh. The u15s were at home in the Michael Foley tournament, while the u16s travelled to Tipperary for the Tipperary Supporters Club (formerly the Arrabawn) tournament.
It was a good day for u16 hurlers, the u16B’s beat Waterford and Galway but lost to a strong Cork who went on to win the competition. Wexford B played with great pride and passion and no little skill, one score they got saw three hand passes to get out of trouble, three off the hurl from centre back, midfield and full forward who drove it over! All the things we are looking to see from our squads and what our coaches are seeking to instill. Overall a great day, lots learned and the lads enjoyed the day.
The U16 A’s had an even better day, they beat Offaly, unluckily they lost to Limerick by a point (1-14 to 3-9), losing their 3rd game to Kilkenny, however they reached Shield final where they beat Laois 1-09 to 0-08 in Clonmel.
Our U14s in the Tony Forristal started well beating Laois 4-09 to 1-05 but lost to a handy Antrim side by a goal ending 1-08 to 2-08 which ended their involvement in the competition. In the Sonny Walsh, our second team went down heavily to Kilkenny (who went on to win the competition)but beat Limerick in the second game, however they were eliminated on scoring difference.
Back home our u15s had a mixed day, Wexford North beat Laois but went down to both Dublin and Kilkenny North ending their involvement. Wexford South though beat Offaly and Kilkenny and Dublin South before losing their semi final with Dublin North 1-8 to 0-6. This qualified them for the Shield Final where they faced off again against Kilkenny South, this game ended at full time in a draw, extra time required which unfortunately Kilkenny won ending 1-12 to 1-09.
Overall a good day, lots learned, some disappointment, bruises and sore bodies but a great experience for these future stars. Of course this was just one day and the work goes on, learning, improving, clawing our way back.

Wexford GAA thanks the players, the management, the clubs and of course the parents for their support and dedication all year.
