June has traditionally been a key month for the primary school children of Ireland as it brings with it the start of the summer holidays. For the students of Caim, Ballindaggin, Kiltealy, Donard and Courtnacuddy National Schools it has particular significance, however, as it also heralds the next instalment of the annual Duffry Rovers Primary Schools Football Blitz.
The blitz was only founded in 2009 by a group of local Primary school teachers and it now enters its seventh year as a firmly established fixture on the under-age calendar. It also serves as a shining example of how the game of football can be developed, for both boys and girls, while at the same time providing a fun-filled day that manages to strike a perfect balance between meaningful competition and enjoyment for the five schools involved.
This year’s tournament is set to throw in at 9.30pm on Thursday June 11th with the picturesque surrounds of Duffry Rovers’ Coolree venue once again playing host to what promises to be another day of thrills and spills whilst rumour also suggests that there may be a special guest coming to present the silverware. All are welcome except for rainclouds!
Many thanks to the Duffry Rovers club for their continued support of this event and to Peter Hally for his assistance and for supplying the referees for the day.
Let the games begin.
