Wexford travelled to O’Connor Park Tullamore with a real belief that they would collect all two points and following Offaly’s woeful performances in their three previous league outings there was good reason to feel confident. Truly Wexford were the superior side and ran out comfortable winners Wexford 1-21 Offaly 2-5 in a win that puts them firmly in the chase for promotion.
Wexford started slow but soon hit top gear and were ahead by 0-8 to 0-1 after 27 minutes and went in at the interval leading by 0-10 to 0-3. A goal early in the second-half from Ken Casey gave Offaly hope but Wexford responded with another six unanswered points. That Offaly were down to 14 men for much of the second half did not aid their cause. Offaly scored a second goal mid-way through the second half but this was to totally against the run of play and Wexford went on to score their own goal through Shane Roche to finally kill off any sort of resistance.
All in all a good days work which sets things up nicely for the visit of Roscommon next Sunday to Wexford Park. Wexford now have momentum behind them and will hope that this and home advantage will see them over the line next week. Wexford have the look of a confident and settled side, they though you feel need bigger challenges if they are to develop further and for this reason promotion is crucial.
