Another big day and another big win at home in Innovate Wexford Park with a highly entertaining quarter final victory in front of over 7,000 spectators, Wexford had to match the All Ireland Champions every move today and some might say there’s nothing won in March but today’s win probably proved we can match anyone which was helped of course by Conor MacDonald first half goal that was aided by Rory O Connor.
Wexford hit the ground running and led 8 points to 5 on the 20th minute, but Galway soon took advantage of Wexford slight over playing of the ball and went 1 up 0-9 to 0-8 with 5 mins left in the first half before the arrival of the only goal of the game. Lee Chin put over the last first half score for Wexford and the half time whistle ended 1-9 to 0-11 to Wexford
Wexford had the breeze at their backs for the second-half but it was the All-Ireland champions who’s turn it was to hit the ground running and put over three unanswered points from Cathal Mannion, Johnny Coen and Joe Canning. But Wexford replied with four points without reply and got back in front with even full back Liam Ryan getting in on the scoring act. With both sets of supporters on the edge of their seats heading into injury time thanks to Rory O Connor and Conor Whelan both putting 1 each over for their County before Conor MacDonald sealing Wexford win with the last 2 points of the game ending 1-23 to 0-23 and resulting in a big Allianz Hurling League Semi Final against our neighbours Kilkenny next Saturday 4pm, Innovate Wexford Park.
