Under the umbrella of Wexford GAA Coiste na nOg, a new U17 Hurling District League is to be launched in the coming weeks .
It is hoped that it will become an annual tournament.
The purpose of the tournament is to offer high level competition to all of the County’s most talented Under 17 hurlers, regardless of the size or level of their Club.
At the end of the League two squads will be chosen to compete in national competition and ultimately develop the pool of elite players who will hurl at Senior level for Wexford.
County Chairman Diarmuid Devereux and Coiste na nOg Chairman Bobby Goff have given their strong backing for this initiative.
District coaches and mentors are currently working with all clubs to build their strongest possible squads.
The District Competition will run during February March and April and involve each district playing each other twice, with ‘A’ and ‘B’ Finals taking place at the end of April.
All efforts will be made to minimise the impact on Clubs playing Minor Championship in March and there is a fully integrated approach with Wexford Minor Hurlers and Footballers
More news of the official launch and the calendar for games and training will be publicised over the next two weeks.
