The second round of the WFC Senior Football championship gets underway this weekend with many attractive pairings.
Castletown, the 2010 Co Champions, are playing their first championship game this weekend having had a bye in the first round. They will face Horeswood who had a narrow victory over Clongeen last time out. This is a crucial game for both clubs with the Gorey district men keen to make a good start to the championship and Horeswood hoping to go a step closer to cementing their place in the group stage.
All augers well for a competitive game which gets underway in Wexford Park on Friday evening 13th May commencing at 7pm. This will be a good game for the local suppoters and all the neutral Football followers in the county.
Two games are down for decision in O’Kennedy Park, New Ross when we see two local derby games taking place. Clongeen, narrowly pipped by Horeswood last weekend, will be very anxious to collect two points here and get back to the winning ways of a couple of years ago. Adamstown had a good win over Starlights in their first game of 2011 and will give the south of the county men a good game which commences at 6pm.
The second game in New Ross is between St. Anne’s and Taghmon-Camross. There should be very little between the sides here, Taghmon-Camross lost out by a goal to Fethard last time out with St. Anne’s taking two points from Shelmaliers. Again, a good game to look forward to which is scheduled for 7.30 pm.
The last WFC senior game of the weekend is in Wexford Park on Sunday with the 2010 Intermediate champions, St. Mary’s Rosslare playing their first senior game of 2011 versus Shelmaliers at 2pm.
There are a large number of Intermediate and Junior games also being played this weekend and details are on this website on the Upcoming Fixtures section.
