Askamore’s James Owens was the match referee for yesterday’s epic Cork v Dublin, All Ireland Hurling Semi Final. It was a game of two halves for Owens who received plaudits at half time for his non-intrusive approach. However following Dublin’s Ryan O’Dwyer’s second yellow card and sending off the Wexford man drew a lot of unfair criticism.
The referees lot is a tough one and it’s difficult to keep everyone happy. Referees put a huge effort into their preparations and have a massive responsibility and those commenting on them should remember this.
We look forward to seeing James and other Wexford officials in Croke Park again.
