Following the success of the Mahoneys and Cullens in Ireland’s Fittest Family, we are now looking for Wexford`s fittest school. Wexford GAA are organising a Fittest School Community competition led by Davy Fitzgerald and our coaching and games team. The competition is aimed at school teachers and staff but may also include some parents.
How do you enter? To enter the competition, your school selects a team (or teams) of four adults from the school community to participate in Davy`s triple challenge! There must be at least two staff members. Parents of children within the school may form part of the team if required. There is a maximum limit of two males per team.
When will the competition take place? The preliminary competitions will be held in Chadwicks Wexford Park on the second weekend in May. The top eight teams will go forward to the semi-finals under Davy`s watchful eye and vocal encouragement! The final to be held at the end of June.
What are the challenges? Teams will participate in Davy’s triple challenge in three timed events. The challenges will be revealed on the day! All time trial events will be individually based and will follow strict Covid guidelines with social distancing and a no mixing policy enforced.
What is the purpose of the competition? The competition will serve a number of purposes. Firstly, it will generate excitement in school communities and put an exciting focal point around the school community that is unfortunately missing in this school year due to strict restrictions in school buildings. The competition will also act as fundraiser for the Wexford GAA Coaching Programme which now employs twelve staff delivering best practice coaching to our schools. There is an opportunity for schools to generate income by gaining sponsorship for their school through sponsorship cards for team members.
Promotion: Wexford GAA will provide promotional activities and videos for schools so as to engage children in activities and promote physical activity within the school community.
Entry Fee: The entry fee is €500 per team. Each team member is given a sponsorship card to cover the entry fee and fundraise for their school. Further sponsorship could be gained through the use of Aladdin etc.
Finalists: The four finalists will receive especially designed O Neill`s gear (half-zip, t-shirt and shorts) in your school colours for the big day. The final and semi-finals will be covered live on Wexford GAA TV. The successful team will win O Neill`s sports equipment and gear to the value of €5,000.
