All Ireland Handball Semi Finals
There was a double of success for Wexford last weekend in All Ireland semi finals in St Mary’s handball club in Wexford town. Paul Lambert got the ball rolling in fantastic fashion by dishing out a hammering to Kevin Craddock from Galway on a 21-4, 21-9 score line. It was a game where Lambert from the St Joseph’s club never let his west of Ireland opponent settle at all to advance to the final of the 60 x 30 All Ireland Junior singles.
There was a similar out come in the over 35 A singles semi final as Gavin Buggy was in sublime form as he beat Vinnie Moran from Mayo. Gavin raced into the game and won the opening set 21-8, and the momentum never dropped from the home player as he saw out the game 21-10 to reach another final in this grade.
Leinster Juvenile Handball semi final 60 x 30
It was a good weekend for Wexford players in the Leinster Juvenile semi finals as fourteen pairings from Wexford have qualified for next weekend’s Leinster finals.
Cliodhna O’Connell and Leanne Boland advanced in the under 12 doubles with a fine 14-15, 15-13, 15-2 win over Emily Sheridan Fox and Sarah McGillick from Meath, however there was no such luck for Courtney Browne in the under 16 semi finals as she went down 21-6, 21-16 to Maeve Daly from Dublin. However there will be four other girls in Leinster final action next weekend along with O’Connell and Boland as Laura Flanagan/Eva Creane (under 13 doubles), Holly Hynes (under 14 singles), Roisin Walsh (under 15 singles) will be in action.
Glen Murphy cruised into the under singles final beating Daniel Farrell from Meath 15-5, 15-4, while Todd Hynes had an even easier passage to the final of the under 13 singles romping past Eoin Cooney from Dublin on a 15-0, 15-0 score line in Na Fianna court in Dublin.
William Murray Byrne and Michael Curran advanced in the under 13 doubles beating Kyle Cussan and Callum Moran from Meath on a 15-4,15-5 win.
Under 14 proved to be a stumbling block for Wexford as both the singles and doubles players crashed out surprisingly, as Anthony Butler lost out 15-12, 15-8 to Ben Devlin from Louth and Patrick Boland and Adam Walsh came undone 9-15, 15-11, 1505 against Pat Browne and Joe Stewart from Meath.
Ciaran Busher and Kevin Shannon won their under 15 doubles semi final 3-15, 15-13, 15-13 against Dublin duo Michael Varley and Cian Flanagan, while Bryan Kehoe beat Ciaran Tynan from Meath 21-2, 21-6.
Joining these winners in Leinster finals next weekend are Richard Browne/Cian Kehoe (under 12 doubles), Keith Armstrong (under 16 singles), Tomas Hall/Daniel Kavanagh (under 16 doubles) and Liam Shannon and Jack Roche in under 17 doubles.
