Wexford GAA have announced an independent, root and branch review of coaching structures in the county. As part of the sweeping reforms that have taken place in recent months, which have included an overhaul of the county championships and the putting of the counties finances on a sustainable footing. The Wexford County Board Management Committee have requested that the Leinster GAA conduct a comprehensive review of our coaching structures.
Coaching & Games Review of Wexford Structures
The County Board Management Committee has asked Leinster GAA to carry out an external review of all aspects of coaching and games as part of the new Wexford GAA Strategic Plan which is currently being developed. The review will be carried out through a focus group approach to ensure all voices are heard and all needs and challenges are identified. The process will be completely independent and each group will be facilitated by a trained facilitator from outside the county. The aim of the review is to inform and direct future policy and development in the area of coaching and games in the county.
County vice chairman, Micheál Martin, who is responsible for coordinating the new strategic plan explained the importance of this review, “The coaching and games section is the most important element of any GAA plan. We are a games organisation and getting our structures right, so as to offer our players a development pathway to success, is essential. The GAA at national level have developed a system for the child, the youth and the adult whereby they are provided with games opportunities that are age appropriate and developmental. This review is our chance to get the implementation of this structure right and hopefully it will be the foundation of our new plan.”
Those consulted as part of this review will include; Club Coaches, Club Representatives, Teachers from Primary and Post-Primary Sector, Development Squad Players, Development Squad Coaches County Executive; full-time personnel and representatives from Coiste na nOg and Wexford CCC.
