Wexford Handball Winter league Semi Finals
The semi finals of the Wexford winter handball league got underway last week with ten semi final clashes taking place across five divisions. In the division one semi finals there was a double of wins for Ballyhogue as Gaelon Riordan and Peter Hughes both advanced to the semi finals. Peter Hughes was given a tougher than anticipated game by John Rossiter from Garryhill before eventually triumphing on a 21-9, 21-19 result. In the second semi final Gaelon Riordan also got the better of a Garryhill man, as he downed title favourite Daniel Fenlon on a comfortable 21-9,21-12 score line.
IN the division 12 semi finals Padraig Roberts made his way into a county final for the first time in over ten years as the Kilmyshall man defeated Robbie Codd from Templeudigan 21-10, 21-13. Declan Jordan (Coolboy) will provide the opposition for Roberts in the final after he defeated Eamon Bowe from Davidstown on a 21-20, 21-16 score line.
Division 13 saw Niall Leacy from St Joseph’s get past Tom Rossiter 16-5 with Rossiter from Castlebridge retiring injured .The second semi final in this grade was a very close affair as Richard Martin Jnr got the better of Andrew Corish from Horeswood 21-13, 16-21, 11-7.
Tommy Cummins from Horeswood advanced to the final in division 15 with an impressive 21-10, 21-5 win over Michael O’Connor from Templeudigan; in the final he will meet Stevie Lawlor from Bridgetown who defeated Paul Tracey from Arklow after a very close contest 21-18, 16-21, 11-7.
The final of division 20 will be between James Stanners from St Martin’s and Martin Crowley (St Joseph’s), after both players won their semi finals over the last week. Stanners defeated Trevor Nolan (St Joseph’s) 21-3, 21-4 , while Crowley defeated James Flood from St Mary’s 21-16, 21-8.
The remaining semi finals take place during the coming week
