Meetings of an Coiste Bainistí of CLG Loch Garman were held online via MS Teams on Wednesday August 6th and Monday August 11th, 2025. Matters discussed were as follows:
Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence
The sole agenda item for the meeting of Wednesday August 6th related to how two plots of land directly adjoining the Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence had been placed on the market. One of these plots, comprising 8.7 acres, was of particular interest for future developments at the COE. It was agreed to enter negotiations to purchase this land.
At the meeting of Monday August 11th, Cathaoirleach John Kenny reported that following talks with the auctioneer and vendor, ‘sale agreed’ status has been reached on the plot in question. A legal process must now be followed before ownership is officially transferred to CLG Loch Garman.
All agreed that purchasing the land is a positive move and again re-affirms the commitment to providing the best facilities possible at the COE.
Other topics at the Monday meeting were:
Inter-county managers
The meeting heard that in both football and hurling, our senior and U20 managers are to be put forward again for ratification for 2026, i.e.:
- Senior Football: John Hegarty
- U20 Football: Dylan Gregan
- Senior Hurling: Keith Rossitter
- U20 Hurling: Rónán Joyce
The appointment of Minor (U17) managers for next year will be fully considered after games conclude for this year’s U16 Development Squads.
Coaching & Games
Cathaoirleach John Kenny said we are currently down a number of GPOs due to people having left the posts, and that a new structure may have to be put in place.
Operations Manager Conor Day told how a number of meetings have taken place with the Coaching Office, and they have come up with a proposal to run until the end of the year. Details will be revealed as the plan is put into effect.
Strategic Plan
Micheál Mahon gave an update on the work on a new Strategic Plan, and the role being played by consultants Paul Kinnerk and Michael McGeehan.
This will include a root and branch review of Wexford hurling, to begin in September. There are to be several stakeholder workshops, including two for clubs, and details will be announced in due course.
Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s
The meeting noted how Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s have withdrawn from the Whizzy Internet Intermediate ‘A’ Football Championship, and how this is both unfortunate and disappointing.
A discussion took place about challenges faced by clubs in urban areas in general, and in New Ross in particular. It was decided that contact will be made with Geraldine O’Hanrahan’s, to see if County Board may be able to offer any advice or assistance.
Club Fixtures
County Secretary and Secretary of the CCC, Aoife Parle, said there has been a significant increase this year in the number of requests from clubs to have their championship fixtures arranged to avoid certain dates and/or times. It is simply not possible to grant them all, particularly with regard to fixtures for Round 5 group games, and the knock-out stages that will follow.
Unfortunately, there has been some instances of people involved with teams making abusive phone calls when a match was not fixed to their liking. All agreed this was unacceptable.
Aon Ghnó Eile
Congratulations were extended to all involved in the successful Guinness World Record attempt held at Chadwicks Wexford Park during Fleadh week, for the largest-ever Céilí Band.
It was noted that a small number of people were unhappy on the day that they could not accompany their children on their way to the area designated for musicians. However, this was due to rules and procedures that were laid down and enforced by invigilators for the Guinness Book of Records, and the issue was outside the control of Wexford GAA.
The meeting ended.
