Wexford Farmers Co-op 40 x 20 Juvenile Handball finals
After an incredible season of Juvenile small alley handball, the last two weekends saw the curtain come down on what has been a complete breath of fresh air for Wexford handball. Anyone who was worried that once the current senior stars of the county reached retirement that there would be a lack of talent on the conveyor belt for future handball stars, but judging by this year’s championships there may be more than one Paul Brady in the making in county Wexford.
The new Blueprint for the future of Wexford handball rolled out at this year’s county convention has paid back four-fold already with the crowd of parents and players at last week’s finals in St Joseph’s, the biggest ever at a county finals .
The first week of finals saw the finals of the singles championships take place and St. Joseph’s handball centre was bursting at the seams with three courts fully booked with a host of games throughout the day.
In all thirty finals were played out over the past two weekends between singles and doubles and with both girls and boys finals there was something for every handball player and supporter in the county as the talented juveniles of the county showed their worth.
The titles were shared out between nine different clubs and St Joseph’s topped the winners table picking up a massive hit of fifteen titles. Wexford town’s other club St Mary’s picked up four honours, St Martin’s were on the winning trail with three titles. Ballyhogue and Castlebridge both picked up two titles while Bridgetown, Coolgreaney, Horeswood and Templeudigan all picked up one title each.
The results and list of finals shows a lot of new names and one thing is for sure, there are a lot of budding careers in handball in the making for county Wexford
