Wexford GAA is excited to announce details of a unique Super 11s Hurling Tournament to be played over the coming weeks, with teams competing for the chance to play in the final in France!
All senior & intermediate hurling clubs were invited to enter this fast-paced, exhilarating format of hurling, where two will qualify to play in the final in Cherbourg on Saturday March 22, as part of a festival there to celebrate the links between Normandy and Ireland.
Seven clubs took up the offer: Ferns St. Aidans, Faythe Harriers, St. Brigid’s Blackwater, Cloughbawn, St. Anne’s Rathangan, HWH Bunclody, and Naomh Éanna. They have been divided into two groups, with group games to take place on Friday February 7, and the deciding matches fixed for one week later.

- 7.15 p.m.: Ferns St. Aidans v Faythe Harriers
- 7.50 p.m.: Faythe Harriers v St. Brigid’s Blackwater
- 8.30 p.m.: Ferns St. Aidans v St. Brigid’s Blackwater
Group 2 (at HWH Bunclody):
- 7.00 p.m.: HWH Bunclody v St. Anne’s Rathangan
- 7.20 p.m.: Naomh Éanna v Cloughbawn
- 7.40 p.m.: Naomh Éanna v St. Anne’s Rathangan
- 8.00 p.m.: Cloughbawn v HWH Bunclody
- 8.20 p.m.: St. Anne’s Rathangan v Cloughbawn
- 8.40 p.m.: HWH Bunclody v Naomh Éanna
Friday February 14
At Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence
- 7.15 p.m.: Winner Group 1 v Runner-up Group 2
- 7.45 p.m.: Winners Group 2 v Runner-up Group 1
Winners of both these matches will qualify for the trip to France. Travel by ferry and accommodation in France will be provided for 20 members of both qualifying clubs (15 players plus 5 backroom personnel).
It promises to be an exciting and entertaining spectacle, and all are welcome to come along and enjoy the action.
Playing Rules
- Teams are 11 a side with Rolling Subs (Panels of 15)
- Duration Matches in Group 1 (3 teams) will be 11 minutes per half. Matches in Group 2 (4 teams) will be 8 minutes per half.
- Pitch The dimensions of the pitch will be 21 to 21, with Portable Goals on the 21. The defensive zone will be the Semi Circle of the Small D.
- Goals only can be scored. A goal scored from within the defensive zone is equivalent to three points. A goal scored from outside the defensive zone is equivalent to five points.
- Players are prohibited from hand-passing the ball if they have received possession via a hand pass.
- The ball may not be intentionally kicked. Penalty: Free awarded to the opposition where the foul occurred.
- A team has 30 seconds after gaining possession to attempt a shot at goal. If failed, possession is passed to the opposition, and all players must retreat five yards.
- A player may not touch the ball from a puck-out until it travels into the opposition’s half.
- Players may take a tap-and-go free, similar to rugby.
- The ‘65 is replaced by a 1v1 penalty (10 sec). 1 Player will solo from halfway line and strike off the hurl before the D. If the shot is saved normal play resumes and if shot is deflected out of play. The Peno is deemed saved and Play resumes with a Puck Out
- In case of a draw, the result will be determined by a penalty shootout (five shots each), followed by sudden death if necessary.
- Players who commit a cautionable foul will be sin-binned for two minutes.
