St Anne’s have won the WFC Wexford Senior football championship on a score line of 2-14 to 0-8. Led by a ‘man of the match’ performance from county star Red Barry who scored an incredible 1-8 (6 from frees). They led from the start of the game following an early Mark Furlong goal, who volleyed to the net from 8 yards to put them 1-0 to 0-0 up.
At half time it was Castletown 0-4 to St Anne’s 1-6.
Following the restart Red followed up with Anne’s second goal and the task facing Castletown was starting to look epic. St Anne’s did not let up and closed out the game with some great points including 3 from veteran substitute Franny Simpson.
So St Anne’s have claimed the senior title for the 4th time in their history, the last time being 2001 when they claimed the hurling and football double. They now advance to the AIB Leinster Club football championship where they will met the Longford champions (either Emmet Og or Longford Slashers), in Longford on 28th of October.
