Over 4 years of hard work and forward thinking and vision resulted in a very special day last Sunday 11th October for Wexford GAA with the Opening of our state of the art centre of excellence for Wexford’s underage development squads, County minor, U-21s and Adult panels.
looking like a vision of what great things are to come in Wexford G.A.A the facility boasts 4 pitches, two of them fully floodlit, A 2 storey pavilion with 4 large dressing rooms and a viewing balcony and a gymnasium and Dinning/meeting area which will be completed over the next phase of development
“for true potential to be developed, appropriate facilities are a prerequisite”.
Proceedings got underway with the handing over a cheque of €80,000 from the Coiste na nÓg management committee towards the development of the grounds followed by an address from Co Chairman Diarmuid Devereux which started with a minutes silence for the families who lost their lives in the Carrickmines fire tragedy also included in the chairmans address was the gratitude of sponsorship from Tom Doyle of Halo Tiles, Furlong Agri, County funds and grants from Leinster Council and Croke Park and a newly announced by chief whip Paul Keheo a Government Capital Sports Programme grant of €200,000 and also acknowledgement of the work done by Davy Tobin, Brendan O Connor, and the Kehoe brothers. After the blessing of the grounds the Official opening was left in the hands of GAA President Aodhan O Fearghail.
The new Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence will ensure that Wexford G.A.A. will continue to develop and nurture future generations of talented players who will maintain the proud sporting tradition at club and county levels.
