The County u15
Footballers were out in action in the
National Football blitz Day recently, they played against Armagh, Sligo and
Down. The first game was against a very well drilled Armagh side. Wexford found
themselves under constant pressure in the first 10 minutes of a 20 minute half,
Armagh found themselves 3 points to no score up but after Wexford changed
tactics by playing an extra defender they began to create many scoring
opportunities. Unfortunately for Wexford
it wasn’t going to be their day as they missed several good goal and point
opportunities. The final score in the game was Armagh 0-10 Wexford 2-2. Team
Cian O’Conner, Conor Crosbie, Stephen Morrissey, Stephen Lynn, James Stafford,
James Stafford, Jack Burford, Joe Redmond, Robert Byrne, Joe Gardiner, Seamus Casey, Ciaran Kirwan, Shane Doyle,
Dale Kirwan, Shane Bates and Conor Nolan.
In the second match
Wexford were up against Sligo with the promise that the best players over the
two games would play the final game against Down. Wexford started brightly in
this game with Shane Green, Nick doyle, Shane Bates and James Farrell all
putting in outstanding displays. Wexford were comfortable winners in this game
1-13 to 1-6 over the 40 minute period. Kiran Doran, Conor Crosbie, Stephen
Morrissey, James Stafford, Stephen Lynn, Jack Burford, Shane Greene, Nick
Doyle, Bob Whitty, Ciaran Kirwan, James Farrell, Shane Bates, Kyle Foley, Eoin
McDonald Sean Roche.
As promised the team
that started for Wexford against Down was the strongest team formation of the
day. Wexford dominated Down from start to finish scoring some fantastic team
scores, breaking from the backs at pace and delivering fast ball forward to a
forward line that definitely benefited from
a forward session from John Hegarty the week previous to the tournament. There
were several fine performances throughout the field, however Nick Doyle’s high
fielding was majestic at times. Shane Greene attacking from wing back and James
Farrell at center forward tore the Down defence apart with their lightening
pace. Wexford won easily outscoring Down 7-04 to 1-06. Cian O’Conner, Kiaran
Doran (Half each in goal) James Stafford, Jack Burford, Stephen Lyne, Shane
Doyle, Joe Redmond, Shane Greene, Nick Doyle, Robert Byrne, Shane Bates, James
Farrell, Seamus Casey, Dale Kirwan, Bob Whitty and Eoin McDonald.
