Football
Our senior footballers opened their return to Division 4 of the NFL when they defeated Leitrim in Bellefield. We followed this with a trip to Antrim where we played in Corrigan Park Belfast, but went down to a late goal from the home side.
We have four home fixtures in football with London, Wicklow and Carlow also playing here.
AWAY GAMES
We have another long trek northwards to play Louth in Drogheda in round 6 on March 27th
After todays big win over Wicklow Wexford are still in with a chance of a place in the league final. We host Carlow in the final league game in Innovate Wexford Park on April 3rd
FINAL
The top two teams after the seven rounds are completed will play in the league final in Croke park on Saturday April 23rd.
Hurling
The hurlers started the league with a defeat when they visited The Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Saturday February 13 for a 7pm floodlit game against one of the favorites for promotion from Division 1B.
The following week saw the return of Clare to Innovate Wexford Park for the first clash between the sides since that epic All Ireland qualifier in 2014. Wexford won that game after extra time and Davy Fitzgerald now had Donal Óg Cusack in his backroom staff. After a tight game played in a westerly gale, Clare got the late scores to win by 4 points.
Wexford then defeated Kerry in Tralee and lost to Offaly in Innovate Wexford Park today
Wexford now have 2 points after four games.
Wexford final game is next Sunday in Postlaoise against Laois.
Wexford therefore have only two home games again in the NHL which has been the case all too often in recent years. The advantage of this is that if we finish in the top four of Div 1B we would most likely have a home venue for a quarter final as the team with the fewer home games in the league section get priority for home venue in the quarter finals. If both those teams have had the same number of home games then the venue is decided by the toss of a coin.
