A huge crowd gathered in Wexford Park on Wednesday evening for a feast of under 10 football when four of the seven Wexford District finals were played. All four games proved very competitive with a new name being added to the winners of top prize.
Well done to the Volunteers on claiming the A title thanks to a great victory over near neighbours and rivals, Sarsfields. Goals proved decisive as the famous Vols club won on a scoreline of 3-01 to 0-03.
The B final proved to be an even closer affair with Glynn Barntown’s first team defeating Our Lady’s Island/St Fintans on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-4. The C titile went to St Martin’s A team as they accounted for St Annes with a score of 5-5 to 3-3. The D final was won by St Mary’s Maudlintown as they defeated Kilmore by 6-4 to 1-7.
Thanks to the staff of Wexford Park, the referees James Mullally and Aidan Foley and to members of the organising club, Gusserane O’Rahillys on a most enjoyable evening.
The remaining finals are expected to be played at the same venue on Monday 12th September and will feature:
St Mary’s Rosslare v Shelmaliers
St Martins 2 v Glynn Barntown 2
Kilmore 2 v Volunteers 2
