In a move that will please supporters of both the hurling and football teams it has just been announced that the Bord na Móna sponsored O’Byrne Shield football, and the Walsh Cup Shield hurling games, will now take place as a double header in Wexford Park on Sunday.
Throw in for the football against Laois is 1.00pm with the hurling against Offaly at 2.30pm. Last week’s games in Enniscorthy were well supported and this attractive double header is surely to see a large crowd in attendance again.
The games will provide both managers with a chance to experiment and run the rule over a number of up and coming players.
These competitions also serve another hugely worthy function supporting the Leinster GAA hardship fund. This fund is the only one of its kind offered by a provincial GAA council and has been in existence since the founding of the O’Byrne and Walsh Cups in 1954. Previous assistance that helped local communities, families and players has included financing for medical bills, rebuilding family homes lost through tragic circumstances and financial payments to assist disabled players. Your attendance and Bord na Móna’s sponsorship of the Series gives a further boost to this fund in helping the wider Leinster GAA family.
Teams selection to follow.
