This weekend sees 2 more finals taking place in Wexford Park.
On Saturday 22nd the Junior D Hurling Final between Rathgarogue-Cushinstown and Buffers Alley gets under way at 2.00. This is expected to be a close encounter between two sides who haven’t tasted county final day at this level since the eighties.
Buffers Alley lost out narrowly to St. Martins in the 1982 final while Rathgarogue-Cushinstown took county hounours in 1985 when they defeated Monageer-Boolavogue. The previous year the New Ross side lost out to St. Mary’s Rosslare.
This game will be followed by the Div. 1 All County Hurling League Ferns-St. Aidan’s v Buffers Alley at 3.45 pm. These sides met in the first round of the league on 19th March when the Ferns side had a two point win. Both sides will be hoping to add a little silverware to their honours at the end of the hurling season for 2011.
On Sunday we have the Intermediate Football Final with HWH Bunclody, beaten finalists in 2010, hoping to go a step further this year when they take on a strong team from St. Martin’s. Looking forward to seeing a big crowd in the Park on Sunday for this game which commences at 3.15pm.
A very important relegation also takes place this weekend when Oylegate-Glenbrien and Shelmaliers battle in out to see who retains their senior status for 2012. Already Askamore and HWH Bunclody have been relegated. The game takes place in Monamolin at 3.30 pm.
This game is preceeded by the re-play of the Junior Hurling Championship, Rapparees v Shelmaliers at 2pm. Horeswood have already qualified for the final and will be representing Wexford in the Leinster Club Championship on 30th Oct. against the winners of Longford or Westmeath.
